Is Typing Racer free to play?
Yes. It runs in the browser with no download, no signup and no plugin. Open the page and start typing.
How is the wpm score calculated?
Words per minute is correct characters divided by five, then divided by the minutes elapsed. Only characters you got right count, so mashing keys does not inflate the number.
What typing speed should I aim for?
The average adult types around 40 wpm. 60 to 80 wpm is comfortable for office work and above 100 wpm is fast. The pacer in this game runs at exactly 40 wpm.
Why do wrong letters not move me forward?
Each correct character advances you one step on the track while a wrong one costs accuracy and time. That is deliberate: accuracy first, speed follows.
Can I play it on a phone?
It will open, but a physical keyboard is really required. Timed typing on an on-screen keyboard is frustrating and the score is misleading.
How do I get faster?
Slow down until you stop making mistakes, then let speed come on its own. Most people plateau because they practise fast and sloppy instead of accurate and steady.
